The Baraboo River: a look overtime
When I was a kid, I remember being told there was once a sand bottom to the Baraboo River between La Valle and Reedsburg. A swimming hole on the Baraboo was a frequent subject of a nationally popular comic drawn by Reedsburg native Clare Briggs early in the 20th Century. I didn’t believe the account of a sand bottom because all I ever saw and experienced was Baraboo River mud.
